Seedlings Green Guide at UC Davis
Want to be a part of creating a bright green future? Here's all you need to know about our campus and our city to help you make truly sustainable choices.
Why live green?
At an individual level, our pursuit of environmental sustainability can come through lifestyle changes. How we travel and dispose of our waste, what products we use, where we buy our food, and our energy usage are all areas in which we can make choices that contribute to a greener lifestyle. Here we will show you the different things you have at your disposal on campus and around Davis to make that a little bit easier.
Eating & drinking
Buying locally grown food is a great way of reducing our greenhouse gas emissions and supporting the local community. Check out the year-round Davis Farmers Market, where it is possible to use CalFresh benefits to purchase selected produce. Or sign up for a weekly subscription of fresh fruit and veg from the UC Davis Student Farm, which is, you guessed it, run by students!
Personal care & clothes
Sometimes we don't need to look further than our own home to start the switch towards being more sustainable. Plastic and glass containers can be reused for different types of storage. For personal care, check out brands that give you the option of buying refills, or get your products from a zero waste or 'bring your own' store – and keep them in your reused containers!
Waste, composting & recycling
General recycling bins can be found throughout the UC Davis campus, usually coupled with trash bins. The campus CoHo has more specific recycling bins as well as compost bins. These can take food container products as well as food scraps – check the labels to know what items can or can't be composted or recycled!
